Strengthened sensitisation on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) amongst decision makers; the private sector, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Civil Society

ReCoMaP Result Area 3

Meeting on seaweed cultivation at Shimoni, Kenya

Result 3 of ReCoMaP covers three principal activities which fall under the overall umbrella of sensitisation on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM). The 35 million people of the region are made up of different stakeholders, from State Actors such as government, Non-State Actors such as community-based organisations and greater civil society, i.e. the people who are most affected by decisions regarding their coastal areas.

ReCoMaP engages in a number of sensitisation strategies for the awareness of non-state and state actors on marine and coastal resources sustainable management.

Within this result area, the programme engages in developing specific economic studies and ‘prospective analyses’ on sustainable management of marine and coastal resources. These studies are then made available to the various stakeholders.

The millions of people who live in the coastal regions of the WIO are important stakeholders and are the ones who stand to benefit the most from ReCoMaP. Given the impact that the people have on their coast it is important to educate and sensitise them on ICZM.
