Marine Protected Area (MPA) Capacity Building

In addition to ReCoMaP’s MPA CFP, we also have resources to support MPAs in other ways; through capacity-building, information dissemination, MPA networks and regional-scale planning.

 

Many aspects of ReCoMaP’s work in the arena of capacity-building are still in the development phase, but we are already engaged in some important activities, in particular our contributory support to the WIO-COMPAS Certification Programme.

Direct Programme Support Activities

 

Regional Support:

 

ReCoMaP has awarded WIOMSA a €64,000 Direct Award in support of the innovative WIO-COMPAS Certification Programme.

 

Regional Programme Collaboration:

 

RAMP-COI Programme: Co-financing of an Eco-regional Analysis Workshop April 2009.

 

Dissemination:

 

French translation and Publication of IUCN’s 'A workbook for Assessing Management Effectiveness of Marine Protected Areas in the Western Indian Ocean' in September 2007.

 

Future Plans:

 

ReCoMaP is working with partners to develop other capacity-building initiatives for MPAs.
