At the same time as supporting the application of methodologies and tools, ReCoMaP also supports their development and/or their dissemination.

 

Direct Programme Support Activities

 

Regional Assessment Missions:

WIO: Assessment of GIS capacity needs for coastal zone management (September 2007) pdf small icon 554 KB

 

 

National Activities:

GIS sub-committees or working groups have been established under some of the national ICZM Committees to define country specific GIS action

 

Training:

Coral Reef Monitoring Database (CoReMo 3) training workshop for IOC countries, namely Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles and Comoros (May 2008).

 

GIS Training in Rodrigues: ReCoMaP is funding an Introduction to GIS Training course for 7 participants in Rodrigues. The participants are drawn from various departments of the RRA as well as the local NGO, Shoals Rodrigues. The course is being delivered by Mr Sharveen Persand, a Mauritian GIS consultant as part of a two-phase GIS capacity-building initiative being delivered by ReCoMaP and UNDP Mauritius. The first part of the course took place the 9th-13th November 2009. The second, more advanced, part will take place later in January 2010 under the funding support of UNDP.

The ReCoMaP funding also extends to the purchase of GIS software licences, computer and GPS hardware, satellite image processing software and support for field-based satellite image ground-truthing activities.

Miscellaneous:

  • Various stakeholders have been supported to attend training and capacity-building events in the region including WIOMSA scientific symposium, MASMA study workshops etc.

  • Support to Participants to attend JRC Ocean Colour Remote Sensing Courses (2007 & 2009)
