Management of Human Impacts on the Coastal EnvironmentReCoMaP Result Area 1
The coasts of most countries of the WIO are typically areas that have seen rapid development of urban centres, associated trade infrastructure as well as sometimes extensive tourism facilities. In many situations, best practice waste management systems have not been established to minimise environmental stress. ReCoMaP therefore includes in its portfolio of activities support for improving waste management in the coastal zone. Similarly, some agricultural practices and coastal economic development projects can cause, or exacerbate, upland and coastal erosion. ReCoMaP also supports a number of initiatives to address these issues. This section provides information on some of the key activities that we have undertaken to manage human impacts on the coastal environment.
